Dental implants are an amazing way to replace a single tooth or multiple teeth.
Implants do not interfere with other teeth and are the closest substitute to a natural tooth we have. Dental implants are also extremely versatile.
They can be used to replace a single tooth, as anchors for a bridge (you can read all about crowns and bridges here) or as anchors for an entire denture.
At Dean Williamson Dental, we use very high-quality dental implants.
This results in quicker healing times and more predictable outcomes so you can be assured that your dental implant will be healthy and last well into the future.
What is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a small titanium screw that is placed in the jaw bone.
Implants provide a very sturdy anchor for a crown, a bridge or a denture.
Are dental implants the right choice for me?
Many people can benefit from dental implants. If you a missing a tooth or a few teeth, dental implants are usually a great way to give you back a complete smile.
For an implant to succeed, it requires a sufficient amount of healthy bone. Various healthy conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes and osteoporosis may also affect the healing of an implant. Other factors such as pregnancy and smoking may have an impact on treatment.
As with any dental procedure, it is important to disclose any known underlying medical conditions to the team at Dean Williamson Dental prior to the commencement of any treatment.
The treatment process
The placement of a dental implant requires careful and thorough planning. This is a crucial step to achieve excellent and predictable results.
To restore a missing tooth with a dental implant, a few appointments are usually required.
Before the implant is placed, we will plan and discuss the entire procedure with you. During this planning phase, we will take a 3D x-ray of your mouth. This x-ray is called a Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT).
The x-ray will allow us to precisely determine the optimum position for your implant and ensure that the implant will be well clear of any nerves or other teeth.
After this planning phase, we will sit down with you and present our treatment proposal. This will also be a chance for you to ask any questions so that the entire process is clear in your mind.
The placement of a dental implant is completed in our rooms at the Mackay Customs House under full sterile conditions.
Once placed, we will leave the dental implant to heal for about three months. This is so that the implant can integrate into your bone. We will provide you with all the information needed to ensure a comfortable healing period.
After the implant has successfully integrated, our lab technician, Adrian Tello, will then be able to create a beautiful crown (or bridge) that we will place over the implant.
If you have any questions about the treatment process or would like to find out more about dental implants, the team at Dean Williamson Dental are always happy to help.
