Dean Williamson

PRINCIPAL DENTIST

Born in Mackay in September 1989, I am proud to say that I am a sixth-generation Mackay Local.

I grew up in East Mackay, attended the Whitsunday Anglican School from grade one to twelve, and did all those things a kid can do growing up in this great region. Five years as an Air Cadet with our local squadron gave me great life skills, an exchange to Ghana, and an introduction to flying.

At school, I developed a passion for music with the help of some wonderful teachers and had fun performing in many concerts and eisteddfods.

My interest in dentistry was sparked by meeting a few local dentists who were at the top of their profession and loved their job. I was accepted into James Cook University's inaugural dentistry course in their new state-of-the-art facility in Cairns, and after a tremendous five years, I was honoured to receive the Henry Schein Award for Excellence in Clinical Dentistry.

Post-graduation I was fortunate to be offered a position at the Mackay Base Hospital Public Dental Clinic where I worked with some truly amazing people. It was fun, remarkably busy and, for me, a great learning environment. I then worked in private dental clinics in Mackay for some time before moving to the Sunshine Coast to extend my professional experience.

On a visit home, I saw that the Customs House was for sale. It did not take long for my partner Brad and I to decide that now was the time to start out on our own. Mackay was the place to be, and the fabulous Customs House would make a sensational practice venue.

It is extremely important to me that everyone who walks through our doors at the Customs House receives the best care possible. Practising dentistry is a career I enjoy immensely. My goal is to make every patient’s visit enjoyable and memorable.

PRACTICE MANAGER

As the Practice Manager at Dean Williamson Dental, my face will most likely be the first you see when you enter the amazing Customs House, or it will be my voice on the phone when you call.

“Bubbly, outgoing and loves a good chat” probably best describes my approach to life. Patient care, education and comfort are my priorities in this profession.

My career in the dental industry started when I was fifteen (only a few years ago) and I can honestly say that was one of those “best” life decisions. The experience gained by working alongside some amazing practice managers and practitioners throughout Queensland, and through attending an international dental practice seminar in Fiji, has shaped my approach to management.

The best patient care delivered by a happy motivated team is my daily goal.

Growing up in a family of four children with hardworking parents operating a business on our property in Maryborough, instilled in me a healthy respect for what it takes to run a successful family business. That’s why I am honoured to be part of the Dean Williamson Dental Practice family.

Amongst the other “best” things in my life are moving to Mackay in 2016, joining the fantastic Arsenals hockey club, and meeting my husband there.

We now have two very active young boys, so when I am not at work I am playing mum and trying to keep up.  Then if there is time, I enjoy taking the dogs for a walk, restoring things or just pottering around in my garden.

DENTAL ASSISTANT /RECEPTIONIST

I was born in Katherine Northern Territory and have lived in Darwin for the past 20 odd years.  I moved to Mackay 4 years ago with my husband to be closer to his family and I absolutely love it.

I completed my schooling at Scots & PGC College in Warwick Queensland, following this my career began in the dental industry when my dental therapist as a child approached me on the street and asked if I would like to become a dental assistant.

My most valuable experience as a Dental Assistant is meeting and greeting patients on a daily basis and getting to know them and their life journeys as over time these individuals become extended family who return on a regular basis.

My aspirations in life are travelling to new places and embracing nature and all it has to offer.

I feel fortunate to be able to work in such an amazing building and location and with such amazing people, the atmosphere is serene and very welcoming.

Terri Warhurst

DENTAL ASSISTANT /RECEPTIONIST

I’m so fortunate to be part of the Dean Williamson Dental team and I look forward to bringing my many years of experience to this amazing dental practice in the Mackay Custom House.

I was born and bred in Gympie where my dental assistant career started all those years ago. During my early career, I accomplished my certificate in Dental Assisting as well as Radiography.

Due to my husband working in the mines our family has lived in towns from Mt Isa, Hunter Valley and throughout the Mackay region. I have gained valuable knowledge and experience working in various dental practices along the way.

I really enjoy meeting and greeting patients with a friendly smile, making patients feel relaxed and comfortable in our dental environment, whilst supporting and guiding them in their dental journey.

I love working with a professional, friendly, kind, caring, highly motivated, proactive team just like the team at Dean Williamson Dental. The practice has modern technology and equipment that allow our team to deliver the best patient care possible.

Outside of work my interests are reading and camping with family and friends. I enjoy any social events and festivities that may arise with good old fashion fun and laughs.
