Dean Williamson

PRINCIPAL DENTIST

Born in Mackay, Dean Williamson is proud to be a sixth‑generation local.

He grew up in East Mackay and attended Whitsunday Anglican School from grade one to twelve, making the most of everything the region had to offer. During his five years as an Air Force Cadet with the local squadron, Dean gained valuable life skills, travelled to Ghana on exchange, and discovered his passion for flying.

While at school, he also developed a strong love of music thanks to supportive teachers and enjoyed performing in concerts and eisteddfods throughout the region.

Dean’s interest in dentistry began after meeting several respected local dentists who were at the top of their profession and genuinely loved their job. He was accepted into James Cook University’s inaugural dentistry program in Cairns, studying in the brand‑new state‑of‑the‑art facility. After five rewarding years, he graduated receiving the Henry Schein Award for Excellence in Clinical Dentistry.

Following graduation, Dr Williamson joined the Mackay Base Hospital Public Dental Clinic, working with an exceptional team in a busy and inspiring environment. He later spent time in private practices around Mackay before moving to the Sunshine Coast to broaden his professional experience.

On a visit home, Dean discovered that the Customs House was for sale. It didn’t take long for him and his partner, Brad, to realise it was the perfect moment to establish their own practice. Mackay was where they wanted to be, and the iconic Customs House offered a unique and welcoming setting for a dental clinic.

Providing exceptional care to everyone who walks through the doors of Customs House is at the heart of Dean’s philosophy. He finds great joy in practising dentistry, and his goal is to make every patient’s visit both enjoyable and memorable

Carly went on to earn a school‑based traineeship, completing her Certificate III in Dental Assisting followed by a Certificate IV. Throughout her years as a Dental Assistant, she dreamed of becoming a dentist. Her commitment led her through studies in Medical Science and Oral Health Therapy before she secured a place in the Bachelor of Dental Surgery program at James Cook University in Cairns.
